Learning Disabilities (LD) Month
October is Learning Disabilities (LD) Month across Canada. During LD month the national network of LD service providers strives to improve and deepen the awareness of LD. It is our sincere hope that you will assist us in this endeavor.
Most people are not aware that LD is a life long condition that affects a minimum of 1 in 10 Canadians of all people with average or above average intelligence. LD crosses all ages, genders, socio-economic, cultural and linguistic groups. It is likely that during your life you will be touched, directly on indirectly, by someone with LD in your relationships with family, friends or co-workers.
LD matters to us all. Not only are the consequences dire to the individual, the family, and the community, of it not mattering significantly negative, but at its very core whether or not LD matters is a question of social justice; of fighting disadvantage; of leveling the playing field; of equality.
LD Month is about "making LD matter".
